3D/4D ultrasound

We went for our 3D/4D ultrasound on January 10, 2009.

A standard ultrasound (u/s) is the black & white imaging that makes the baby look like a little alien.  The 3D u/s is the pictures you see in sepia tone that you can actually see what the baby looks like, chubby cheeks and all!  The 4D is recorded onto a dvd and shows live action.

I was told to drink orange juice on my way into the u/s so that baby would be awake and active.  The tech told me that it is easier for them to get good images with an active baby who will move their arms away from their face.  I drank 5 oz of OJ and thought the baby was waking up, but when it came time to start the u/s, baby was sleepy and didn't want to move his or her arms, hands, and a leg & foot out of the way of the face.  Baby was literally bent in half.  I had to get up and drink an ice cold Capri Sun and move around a little bit.  She came back 10 minutes later to try again.  It actually had the opposite desired effect and the baby was in a worse position than before.  I had to roll onto my side, and the tech kept poking at my belly but baby wasn't budging.  So I got up and walked the halls for 10 minutes, while rapping on my belly.  We try again.  Baby is in a better position, but still not that great for good pictures.  The tech was talking about having to reschedule for the following week to try again, however she had no appts the following week.  Finally, he or she started to move around.  I rolled over onto my side again and we got some good pictures.  I have posted the best ones in the album.  My favorite is the one where he or she appears to be sleeping on his or her hands like a little angel, and has a slight smile on the face.

We don't want to know the gender this time since we found out the other four times.  This was the 3rd u/s I've had (only 3D one, though) and we've been able to resist the temptation each time to have a peek "down there".  Ironic thing is, that with the position baby was in for most of this u/s, we could have had the perfect shot of boy or girl.
